Polyester filament is made using polyester to create long filaments. Polyester filament is a fiber with lengths exceeding kilometers, wound into bundles. Fabrics woven from polyester filaments are glossy, have a smooth feel, and resemble nylon fabrics.
Polyester has a wide range of uses, extensively in the production of clothing and industrial products. Flame-retardant polyester, due to its flame-retardant properties, is widely applied. Besides playing an irreplaceable role in industrial textiles, interior decorations for buildings, and decorations for transportation, it also plays a significant role in the field of protective clothing. According to the national standards for flame-retardant protective clothing, sectors such as metallurgy, forestry, chemical industry, petroleum, and firefighting should use flame-retardant protective clothing. In China, the number of people who should be using flame-retardant protective clothing exceeds one million, indicating a huge market potential for flame-retardant protective clothing. Besides pure flame-retardant polyester, multifunctional series products featuring flame-retardant, waterproof, oil-repellent, and anti-static properties can also be produced according to users' special requirements. For instance, treating flame-retardant polyester fabrics with waterproof and oil-repellent finishes can enhance the functionality of flame-retardant garments; interweaving flame-retardant polyester with conductive fibers can produce anti-static flame-retardant fabrics; blending flame-retardant fibers with high-performance fibers can create high-performance flame-retardant fabrics; blending flame-retardant fibers with cotton, viscose, and other fibers can improve the comfort of protective clothing while reducing secondary burns.
According to the production process, polyester filament can be classified into: 1. Primary filament: undrawn filament (conventional spinning) (UDY), semi-oriented filament (medium-speed spinning) (MOY), pre-oriented filament (high-speed spinning) (POY), highly oriented filament (super-high-speed spinning) (HOY). 2. Drawn filament: drawn filament (low-speed drawn filament) (DY), fully drawn yarn (spinning and drawing in one-step) (FDY), fully oriented yarn (one-step spinning) (FOY). 3. Textured filament: conventional textured yarn (TY), draw-textured yarn (DTY), air-textured yarn (ATY).
According to usage, it is mainly divided into civil and industrial use.
