Hi, everyone. It’s Dragon Boat Festival again. Today, we celebrate Dragon Boat Festival together in our company as an event. We make Zongzi and duck eggs by ourselves today and share them with all the staffs. Moreover, our company prepared hand-make colorful bracelets to send best wishes to everyone. This festival is one the most impressing Dragon Boat Festival in our lives. Here are some memorable moments, and I am eager to share this traditional Chinese festival with you.
Dragon Boat Festival occurs on the 5th day of the 5th month of the traditional Chinese calendar. Therefore, this festival can also be called Double Fifth Festival. Dragon Boat Festival has another name as Zhongxiao Festival. Let’s see more about the origins.
Thousands of years ago, there was a poet named Qu Yuan. He was also the best advisor of the state of Chu. Qu Yuan loved his state but other advisors were jealous of him. They said bad things about Qu Yuan to the king, and the kink believed them. When Qu Yuan warned his king of the state of Qin nearby the king was angry and sent him far away to a southern village. There, Qu Yuan wrote many famous poems. While, without Qu Yuan’s advice, the State of Chu was soon invaded by the state of Qin. When Qu Yuan heard the bad news, he was heart-broken. On the fifth day of the fifth month in the Chinese lunar calendar, Qu Yuan drowned himself in the Miluo River. The villagers rushed out to the river in their boats to look for Qu Yuan. They also wrapped sticky rice in bamboo leaves and threw them into the river so fish would eat rice and not Qu’s body. There two traditions remain to this day. People hold dragon boat races and eat rice dumplings to celebrate Dragon Boat Festival to remember Qu Yuan.
